I was inspired to photograph coastlines as I wanted to explore my local area and capture the unsung beauty of it. As I live in the North East I am very privileged be surrounded by stunning coastal features like the Bow Fiddle Rock and I wanted to show it off to other people who don’t think this area is as beautiful as I do.

I wanted to photograph my city Edinburgh from a perspective that was different from the typical postcard or tourist advert. By combining the act of being a flaneur with storytelling I wanted to show the journey and movement through the built environment in the eyes of an explorer. I am interested in and influenced by the work of Alexander Rodchenko and Ray Metzker's use of light and shadow.

The work of photographers who focus on the natural world inspired me to explore local areas with interesting bodies of water, and this was the main theme for my final project. I enjoyed photographing at Walton Burn in particular, using long exposure techniques which helped me transform the small burn into something more dramatic and mysterious looking.

This project was inspired by the connection between the human, mechanics and nature. Chosen as a topic due to its potential for interesting and exciting images. It was inspired by a hobby picked up in early 2020 to escape what was happening during the pandemic. It developed into a passion for the sport and new friendships and meant a good understanding of suitable locations for shoots, and how to position the bike in such a way that it creates an interesting image. It was intended to share the adventure the hobby takes you on while also giving a little bit of insight into the sport of mountain biking.

This project aimed to portray the musical lifestyle through the genre of documentary photography. Ferris, a musician himself, wanted to explore what it is really like to play, rehearse and experience the more personal aspects of music and being part of a band. He was inspired by the work of music journalists and photographers such as Francis Wolff, Val Wilmer and William Claxton, who explored the gritty, underground style of jazz in the first half of the 20th century.

I have always found comfort in the sea, and I wanted to capture the sea in many different states both calm and dramatic, as well as everything that comes with it like fishermen and animals. I love the endless possibilities that the sea brings — looking at it can allow people to have an open and optimistic mindset.

My work was inspired by the fact that nature grows and decays in such a beautiful yet silent way that goes unnoticed by the naked eye. I’ve always had a thing for getting down and close to things like mushrooms, flowers and leaves to see what’s fully going on.

My photography work was inspired by interior decay. The aim of the shoots was to capture the human presence within the homes that were once loved but now sit abandoned by their owners. I wanted to illustrate the beauty of decay and allow these abandoned chambers to be reappreciated.

I took reading as my inspiration, and decided to create multiple photoshoots inspired by classic books I loved reading when I was little. I wanted to do a range of photos: still life using objects I had acquired, and figurative photos of my friend. I tried a mix of different media and techniques I had researched on Pinterest, such as the bokeh effect, lighting, composition and others.

Colour photography portraying fruit against colourful backgrounds. The image of the cut-up apple has been edited to create an illusion of the three parts floating in the air. This illusion was created using metal wires which were later edited out.
